BITAS Project
The Regional Department of Tourism together with Regional Agency Sardegna Promozione organizes the second edition of Bitas, the Sardinian International Active Tourism Exchange that will take place from 27th of April to 3rd of May 2011 at Forte Village Resort in Pula.
Bitas, created to promote and boost Active Tourism, is one of the major events backing the purpose of developing an "all year long tourism season" in Sardinia.
Active Tourism embraces bicycle tourism, trekking, rock climbing, nordic walking, horse riding, diving, sailing, golf and every activity that turns a static holiday in a dynamic one. Compared to classic concept of tourism, Active Tourism has two advantages: it helps to move tourists from the coast in behalf of inland areas and contributes to enlarge the tourism season.
Active Tourism allure has constantly grown lately capturing the worldwide tourism market and becoming the driving force behind remote areas economy.
BITAS 2011 is organised in two main workshop moments for operators to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business - plus preparatory and collateral moments, such as educational tours, seminars and sport experiences.
Main BITAS 2011 moments:
Bargaining. Sardinian Active Tourism operators have to subscribe to an online list in order to fix appointments with national and international tour-operators to negotiate with during the two bargaining days.
"Home Sardegna";. 2011 edition will have a reserved area for local operators to meet and set up businesses between themselves.
Educational Tour. Due to the great response during the 1st edition, this year educational tour will last two days giving the tour operators the opportunity to discover Sardinia in its wholeness. They will be taken to remote and unspoiled areas to practice sports and visit high standard handicraft and agri-food farms.
Tutorials: various tutorials analysing the tourism industry’s features, led by high calibre speakers such as professors and tourism experts, open to everyone, will be held during the first three days.
Showrooms;. A reserved area will be arranged for outdoor facilities manifacturers to exhibit and promote their products, according to Sardegna Promozione's showroom policies.
Bitasland: An Active Tourism experience is offered to anyone who wants to try his hand at tree climbing, mountain bike or wall climbing in an outdoor area equipped for the purpose.
Sardinia Raid Adventure;. The first edition of Sardinia Raid Adventure;, a 350 km multidisciplinary contest -including orienteering, mountain-bike, canyoning, kayak, surf-sky, trekking, Nordic walking, ride & run- will take place among the marvellous scenarios of Sardinia. From the savage cliffs of Supramonte mountain to the enchanting coves of Golfo di Orosei running through deep canyons, age-long woods and dream coasts in one of the most unspoiled sites in the Mediterranean area.
